The California Avocado Industry knows that in order to lead in an increasingly crowded market place we have to be the leading producer of safe, quality fruit -- while at the same time being a steward of local lands. To this end, the industry embraced the Growing for Quality Program which provides voluntary guidelines for growers to use on-farm to maximize the quality and safety of their product. Now the industry is moving to the next level, which is to encourage on-farm growing practices that demonstrate our industry's long-term commitment to environmental stewardship. The industry is working toward a Code of Sustainable Avocado Growing Practices which will ensure consumers are purchasing a product of the highest quality and safety while at the same time was produced under conditions that safeguard our State's natural resources and environment. This voluntary code will ensure the long-sustainability of California avocado production.
