RipeScan℠
RipeScan is an audit program conducted by the Hass Avocado Board (HAB). In-store audits are conducted in select chains and markets around the country. Store-level displays are evaluated based on pre-established criteria such as ripeness, display size and location. The California Avocado Commission (CAC) incorporates the RipeScan Performance information into its retail communications outreach. To compliment this program, the CAC's Best Practices provides tips on receiving, handling, and the merchandising of ripe avocados resulting in quality displays. Research indicates that ripe avocados can outsell unripe avocados up to 4 to 1. Produce displays should be stocked with the appropriate mix of ripe and breaking fruit in order to meet consumer demand. We're here to help!
